Tip #1 - Talk to your kids!
Sometimes, children face discouragement when they do not have someone to talk to or listen to their problems. As simple as it may sound, children want to understand why they have certain feelings and usually the best person to explain it is a caring and concerned parent. In our society, we need to watch out for the cycle of constantly filling our time with work or household duties and not spending enough quality time with our children. If we choose not to spend some time with them when they are young, we may be required to spend a lot of time with them when they are older and possibly in trouble.
Tip #2 - Return to your childhood! (The fun part!)
It is good for your children to know that you can have fun with them. A family needs to play games together. Interaction in this way will help to build a comfortable atmosphere for kids to talk about issues. Knowing that Mom and Dad can be free from work and duties to spend time with them displays how much you care and will free your kids to feel more comfortable talking to you about the hard issues than just their friends.
Tip #3 - Your kids really do look up to you!
We all hope that our kids are not drawn to professional athletes or famous actors as their main role models, but the media doesn't seem to help with this situation. You must take back your kids focus! If you would calculate how much time you spend with your kids as opposed to the time they spend with other kids, school or just on the cellphone, you will probably notice that you are in last place. Here is where you can win everytime, sacrifice your precious time and find some activities that they would like to do with you! Try it today!
